Project Manager: Becky
B. Ritchey. Ms. Ritchey is currently the Project Manager for the
Violence Prevention Project at Eastern Kentucky University, funded by
the Hamilton Fish Institute. Prior to her work with the EKU Violence Prevention
Project, Ms. Ritchey served as the Project Coordinator for the Juvenile
Justice Telecommunications Assistance Project (JJTAP) under a federal
grant from the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice and
Delinquency Prevention. Ms. Ritchey also served as the Training Coordinator
for the Kentucky Educational Collaborative for State Agency Children,
which provides professional development and technical assistance to school
administrators and educators in all of Kentucky's state-operated juvenile
facilities and private childcare agencies. Training Consultant: Dr.
Lynn McCoy Simandle is a Research Associate with the Kentucky
Center for School Safety. Previously, she served as Program Manager of
the Safe Schools Office for the Fayette County Public Schools. Dr. McCoy-Simandle
has trained numerous educators in Fayette County and the Commonwealth
of Kentucky in violence prevention curricula. She has presented at several
state and national conferences relating to Second Step: A Violence Prevention
Curriculum, conflict resolution, and peer mediation. Research Analyst: Dr.
Ruth Huebner, Ph.D. Dr. Ruth Huebner is a Professor in Eastern
Kentucky University's Department of Occupational Therapy in the College
of Health Sciences and serves as the Research Associate for EKU's School-Based
Violence Prevention Project. Dr. Huebner is a licensed psychologist and
occupational therapist. Currently she is on-loan to the Kentucky Cabinet
for Families and Children and serves as the Child Welfare Researcher for
the State. She has worked with children and adolescents for more than
25 years. Dr. Huebner has conducted several key studies of outcomes in
rehabilitation and child-centered settings including research related
to autism, brain injury, and quality of life among persons with chronic
disabilities. Education Consultant: Dr.
Connie Callahan, EKU College of Education. Connie Callahan, Ph.D.
is an Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling and Educational
Psychology. She has produced over 100 crisis and violence workshops and
has worked with numerous school districts to develop safe school plans,
crisis intervention manuals and safe school teams. She has also published
a number of articles on crisis management and violence prevention in schools.
Dr. Callahan has taught over 40 different university classes in psychology
and counseling and owned an operated Southwestern Counseling Services
in Albuquerque, New Mexico for ten years.
